Army Ranger
PFC Kristofer Douglas Scott Thomas
KIA 2-17-2007 OEF

My son, Army Ranger Kristofer Douglas Scott Thomas, was killed four months after his 18th birthday on 17, February 2007, in Afghanistan while serving our country in the most honorable way. It became clear to me that words could not adequately or sufficiently describe the meaning or value of Kristofer's short life. Kristofer was a strong, beautiful young man. Though my heart is filled with much sadness, my message is not one of despair, but one of hope, love, and celebration. Anyone who had the good fortune of spending time with Kristofer can attest to his wit and good humor. He was a prankster who loved to laugh and more importantly, he loved to make others laugh... something he did with ease. He was the type of person who lived life to the fullest, and took advantage of each minute. I know Kristofer will live on in my heart and I will share his memory through laughter and joy!

Scott was the person everyone wanted to be around. He loved making people laugh, he loved playing pranks, he loved his family and he loved being a PJ. Scott was full of life, he had no fear. After all, I guess that is what makes a great PJ. He loved to scuba dive, jump out of perfectly good airplanes, snowboard, mountain hike and just about anything dangerous he thought he needed to conquer. He was a wonderful husband and the world's best daddy. Scott loved cars like his dad. He knew them inside and out and he especially loved the fast ones. So it is no surprise that he had the Cadillac CTS-V, yes V for the corvette engine. He loved that car. We would all go riding in it, Sophia in back in her car seat. He would rev the engine and say "You hear that Sophia? That's daddy's car". I would laugh and he would smile and say "What? She loves it!". He was a PJ for almost 15 years, a loving husband for just over two, and a daddy for four months when the Lord brought him home February 17th, 2007. The PJ motto is "That Others May Live". I don't think I understood the brotherhood of the PJ's and the 24th until I lost my husband. They have been my rock and will always be family. I tell Sophia that her daddy was a hero and that he loved her more than anything. I tell her that we have to laugh a lot and love with no limits. I tell her we have to hold our heads up and move forward, that her daddy wasn't a quitter and he would want us to live our life to the fullest. I tell her that her daddy is her guardian angel and he is always with us and watching over us. I tell her that her daddy died for her so that she could live free in this great country we call America. We sing Amazing Grace every night before she goes to bed, that was her daddy's favorite song and the only song he wanted played at his funeral. We love and miss you so much darling and will never forget.

Travis was a good hearted person. He loved children and had a very soft spot for them. Travis was a big kid himself  he loved to have fun with his friends pushing the envelope on.. everything from jumping trains, riding wheelies down the highway at 60 mph. I remember looking out the back window and their was Travis on a three wheeler riding a wheelie across the yard into the street and ended up in the ditch. That kid could ride a wheelie on anything with wheels!
I believe Travis joined the Army in search of a life for himself, their are not a lot of opportunities in rural small town of Iowa, he wanted the education, training and experience the Army offered. He never made it behind a desk in the the classroom for the education he received. I know after meeting his new family the "Nightstalkers", Travis was an A plus soldier in or out of a classroom. You would have to become a Nightstalker to understand. "Nightstalkers Don't Quit"
All of our lives have been changed for ever...

Thank you for never forgetting
