Deborah Getz, Founder of “Never Forget Our Fallen”
Why the organization was founded.
I am a Proud Blue Star Mom. I participate in many community events honoring all veterans and supporting our servicemen and women. My two sons enlisted in the Army upon their graduation from high school. Nicholes went to boot camp in September 2004, over to Iraq in February 2005, and returned in 2006. Kristofer left for boot camp in February 2006. He trained and became the youngest Army Ranger in history at 17 years old. He then deployed to Afghanistan in January 2007. I was notified on February 18th, 2007 that Kristofer was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan the previous day. After this painful news I became able to understand, appreciate, and relate to our tremendous losses. Only after Kristofer’s death was I able to understand the pain family and friends feel. I now, too, am a Proud Gold Star Mom.
After this painful news:
I believe it is my duty to help our communities not forget the sacrifices that our servicemen and women have made for the ongoing freedom we so cherish in this country.
Never Forget Our Fallen hosts an Annual Military Children’s Christmas Party to let them know they too are special and remembered. The motivation for this endeavor is extremely heartfelt.
